Join us in Marking International Men’s Day with ‘The Resilient Leader: Alan Quinlan to Explore Performance, Pressure and Mental Health’ at Free Online Event
How can we perform at our best while managing pressure, building resilience and protecting our mental health? Positive2Work Skillnet, in collaboration with Waterford Chamber Skillnet, Carlow Kilkenny Skillnet and Learning Waves Skillnet, is inviting members to explore these important questions at a special online event with former Ireland rugby international and broadcaster Alan Quinlan.
Taking place on 18 November, from 12.30pm to 1.30pm, The Resilient Leader: Managing Pressure, Performance and Mental Health with Alan Quinlan will offer an engaging look at the relationship between high performance, resilience and positive mental health.
Learning from the world of elite sport
Drawing on his experience at the highest levels of professional rugby, Alan Quinlan will share insights into the realities of performing under pressure and the importance of developing the mindset and coping strategies needed to meet challenges head-on.
A former Ireland international, Alan enjoyed an outstanding playing career with Munster.
Since retiring from professional rugby in 2011, Alan has built a successful career in sports broadcasting and public speaking. He is also an ambassador for Young Mental Health Ireland, helping to raise awareness of mental health through sharing his own experiences.
Building resilience in the workplace
The principles that underpin success in elite sport have valuable applications in today’s working environment. Leaders and employees alike face competing demands, high expectations and periods of uncertainty. Learning to manage these pressures effectively is essential not only for performance, but also for maintaining wellbeing and creating healthier workplace cultures.
During the session, Alan will explore key themes including:
- High performance and high pressure: Understanding the demands that accompany high achievement.
- Building resilience: Developing the ability to respond positively to challenges and setbacks.
- Coping strategies and positive mental health: Recognising the importance of practical approaches to managing pressure.
- The role of exercise and a healthy lifestyle: Exploring how physical wellbeing supports overall performance.
- Lessons from elite rugby: Hearing personal stories and experiences from Alan’s international playing career, alongside rugby analysis.
The session will provide an opportunity to reflect on how lessons from elite sport can inform leadership, personal development and everyday working life.
